Amanda Seyfried rescued her beloved dog, Finn, when he was just a puppy and has been a huge advocate for rescue animals ever since. When she found out she was going on a Dodo Dream Date to help another pup find a home, she wanted to be paired with a pup who needed a little extra help.

We set Amanda up on a date with Ethel, a 10-year-old little pittie mix who had been searching for a home for six months. Amanda invited Ethel over to her NYC apartment and was so excited to meet her.

At first they just hung out, and Ethel got a chance to explore her date’s apartment. She really liked the kids’ playhouse from Amanda’s company, Make It Cute, which creates sustainable (and very pretty) playhouses. After a while, Amanda decided it was time to move on to the next activity.

“We need to do some bonding,” Amanda said to Ethel. “I have an activity for that. It’s painting!”

Amanda set up an area where the pair could unleash their creativity and make paintings for each other. Ethel created hers using the classic peanut butter technique, while Amanda went a more traditional route. Ethel took great care in creating her masterpiece, making sure to lick up every drop of peanut butter from the canvas.

“This is fun because we don’t really know what it’s going to look like,” Amanda said.

While they waited for their paintings to dry, Amanda and Ethel went for a walk outside to get to know each other more and smell some flowers.

“Oh, she’s excited,” Amanda said. “I get excited when I go outside, too.”

After their walk, they went home to have some tea and snacks. Ethel was super excited to chow down on her bright green doggy cupcake and polished it off pretty quickly. They then played in the playhouse some more until the paintings were finally dry and ready to be unveiled.

Amanda hung the paintings up on the playhouse so she and Ethel could admire them together before ending the date with a goodbye kiss.

“I had the best day with you, and whoever gets to keep you is going to have many, many best days,” Amanda said.

Ethel has since been adopted into the best family, but she’ll never forget her date with Amanda and everything she did to help her find a home.
