Hazard: ‘Playing Cards is Preferable to Ice Baths Like Ronaldo

The former Belgian international has a completely different way of recovering his physical strength compared to his senior Ronaldo.

Hazard doesn’t want to have a life like Ronaldo.

“If you asked me if I wanted Cristiano Ronaldo’s will, I would say no. I don’t want to spend hours after every match or training session just soaking in an ice bath or sauna. I would take a shower. Quickly with cold water, then go home to drink beer and play cards with friends. I also spend 2 hours playing with my children. That’s my way to recover. If I were Ronaldo, I would be exhausted.” , Eden Hazard spoke on L’Equipe.

In the summer of 2019, Real paid 115 million euros to Chelsea to own Hazard with the expectation that the Belgian player would fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo. However, Hazard’s mark at the Bernabeu is too faint.

Constant injuries caused him to be included in the list of the worst deals in the history of “Los Blancos”. Even though he does not play regularly, Hazard still pocketed a series of titles with Real, including two La Liga championships, one Champions League, one Copa del Rey, one Spanish Super Cup and European Super Cup.

After the 2022/23 season, Real Madrid is said to have paid a compensation amount to soon terminate Hazard’s contract. The Belgian midfielder received many offers, including Saudi Arabian clubs, but refused them all.

“I already have a lot of money. The years of playing at the top helped me have enough finances to take care of my family. Now it’s time for me to spend time taking care of my children and enjoying life,” Hazard said.

Besides, Hazard also revealed that he had lost his desire to play. The long period of struggling with injury also made the player born in 1991 no longer want to go to the field to practice every day. Therefore, Hazard decided to retire when he was only 32 years old.
