Taylor Swift’s latest album propels her to a milestone on the Billboard 20000 chart!

This 31-song double album won the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart last week, thereby helping Taylor Swift equal the achievement with male singer Jay-Z as the same artist/band with the most albums reaching number one. the second most No.1 positions in the history of this chart (14 albums). Currently, the legendary band The Beatles is the band/artist with the most albums reaching number one on the Billboard 200, with 19 albums.

According to music industry data and analytics company Luminate, the double album “The Tortured Poets Department” has accumulated 2.61 million equivalent album units – a term used in the music industry to refer to Consumption equivalent to the value of an album.

Of the 2.61 million equivalent album units mentioned above, 1.91 million units came from traditional album sales – listeners buying downloads, CDs, cassettes and vinyl records. Notably, vinyl records accounted for 859,000 units and this is the highest vinyl record sales in modern music history. As of now in 2024, “The Tortured Poets Department” is the best-selling album.

According to Luminate, “The Tortured Poets Department” recorded 891.34 million streams in the past week. This was the strongest streaming week for an album in modern music history.

With “The Tortured Poets Department”, Taylor Swift broke the record for most weekly streams for an album, surpassing Drake’s 25-track album “Scorpion” (745.92 million streams in 2018) and Drake’s 21-track album “Certified Lover Boy” (with 743.67 million copies in 2021) and his own album “Midnights” in 2022, with 549.3 million streams.
